Book for Auction Raises $5000 for School

When my daughter transferred schools, I was asked if would consider a probono design project to design a memory book for the 8th grade class that would be sold to all auction. I accepted the challenge an also decide to take on the publishing aspect of the project to see if I could save some money on the project.

The idea on the book was that each child got to have one spread where they shared their childhood memories from birth through 8th grade. It was up to the student and their family to collect pictures and information for me to do the layout. Using dropbox for a place to collect pictures and email for text, I was able to assemble a page for each student, a well as many other page with photo memories the class had shared together, like boy scouts and Washington DC.

I was able to publish the book through Ingram Spark (an online self-publishing book company) and get the 146 page hard back book printed and published at a great price. NOTE: This publisher does require design and production understanding and experience.

Each book at auction sold for $100. Most families bought atleast one book, so it worked out to be a profitable auction project for the school.

I was very happy with how the book turned out and I know it will be a keepsake for all families.
